First and foremost, thank you so much for taking the time to visit! I hope this finds you well and know that I am honored you are here and will do my best to be concise. Time and attention is the ultimate gift, and I greatly value you being here.
If you have made it to this page, it means that you’ve known me for a while, and more specifically, from my time as JacksTheBomb. While that ‘digital home’ has served me well and been the subject of more than a few laughs and a great conversation starter, it’s time to grow and move.
Like so many people I have talked with during this unique time in our life and history, the last three months have been filled with so many ‘opportunities for change’. Now more than ever, I know that I am NOT the same person I was 90 days ago. And while COVID-19 has been a huge piece of that, there are things like a 50th birthday, the decision to leave Amazon and a face-to-face look at myself and the current state of our nation through the lenses of race, politics and leadership.
Perhaps the greatest aspect about significant challenges is the opportunity for growth. The difficulty lies in the fact that the breakthrough doesn’t happen without the breakdown and difficult times have the power to diminish us, define us or develop us depending on our fortitude. For me, it’s been a process of deconstructing who I was, defining who I want to be and developing the plan for getting there. And that’s where Just Won Thing comes in.
For so many of the above reasons and more, I’ve been on a journey to find something meaningful, something authentic and something “Jack” that’s takes the pieces, places and people off my life and ties them all together. It’s also time for me to transition from following to leading and maybe the biggest transition for me is to move from consuming information to sharing knowledge. I’ve spent over 20 years researching, studying and implementing performance improvements in my life and I’d like to share more of that journey with others. And that is how the idea of JustWonThing came to life. What simple lessons, principals and ideas can I share that have made or are making huge differences in my life by focusing on that one thing? What are ‘my truths’ of life?
In working through this idea over the past few months, what I’ve realized is that it isn’t just the single action, activity or event alone that has allowed for the magnitude of change, but the way in which I approached that challenge. I set out to complete said goal with the end in mind and to see and tell the story of how I WON before I even started. This idea is also a key to taking action and avoiding overwhelm on the way – pick an action where you can Win Once Now!
I can’t tell you how excited I am to start this new journey and all the amazing things I have planned. So this is me fondly saying goodbye to JacksTheBomb and starting on a new mission – and that is what this truly is, MY MISSION!
While I’ve known and felt that since the idea first struck, what locked it in for me was the WON resource I will share with you now, which is a Tim Ferriss Podcast with Coach George Raveling. I listened to this podcast a few weeks ago while hiking in a downpour and loving every minute of both the rain falling on the mountain trail and what Coach Raveling was saying. I found myself shouting “YES!” as I was walking because I so emphatically agreed with his message.
It doesn’t take money, and it doesn’t matter what race you are. Correcting the wrongs have to start with our behavior.
When Tim asked George what’s one thing people could do who don’t or haven’t known what to do in this moment in time, he asked people to take a pledge. And in that moment, I took his challenge because it is the WON thing that I know I can do, I must do and I will do. I finished the hike knowing that I had just committed to a new path of being a better human to other humans. We’ll never know if there were tears in my eyes at the end of the hike or if it was the rain, however, based on the feeling in my heart then and as I write this now, I think you know the answer. Thanks for message Coach Raveling!
I hope you’ll join me on a journey off progress, not perfection and an invitation to a conversation about this magical and WONderful experience of life.
